Boehringer Ingelheim and Genentech Announce Clinical Trial
 
Evaluating Metalyse Use Prior to Angioplasty for Treatment of Heart Attack


ORLANDO, Florida, November 11, 2003
- Boehringer Ingelheim and Genentech, Inc. announced at the American Heart Association congress, that a trial to test the single-bolus thrombolytic Metalyse® (tenecteplase) in combination with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) as a potentially improved treatment regimen for acute myocardial infarction (AMI) has started enrolment.

Watford and Three Rivers to get UK’s first Cardiac Car
 
Local Paramedics Pioneer Life-saving Scheme
Watford, 1 September 2003: A pioneering initiative to save heart attack victims is being launched today in the Watford and Three Rivers Primary Care Trust area. Paramedics trained in administering life-saving clot-busting drugs will patrol the area in a car dedicated to responding immediately to chest pain patients.

TALKING BPH - A New Information Service For Patients
 
Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is one of the most common conditions affecting older men, yet many men are reluctant to seek help or ask questions about it.  Sanofi-Synthelabo has launched a new service for men with BPH that aims to provide accessible information.  The new service, called Talking BPH, hopes to  encourage men to take a more proactive role in managing their condition, an initiative consistent with the DOH directive to ‘empower’ patients.

National Men’s Health Week June 9-15: Don’t Gamble with your Sexual Health!

'Look at me!' for Deaf Awareness Week
 
5-11th May sees the launch of the first Deaf Awareness Week by fifty deaf charities and organisations under the umbrella of the UK Council on Deafness. Deaf Awareness Week will involve a UK wide series of national and local events to raise awareness of the needs of the 8.7 million deaf or hard of hearing people in the UK, that is, 1 in 7 of the total population.1
